Manly P. Hall

A widely venerated scholar of ancient and esoteric traditions, Manly P. Hall (1901–1990), wrote more than thirty-three books, delivered more than 8,000 lectures around the world, and authored hundreds of essays and articles. In 1934, Hall founded the Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles for the study of the world’s mythical, philosophical, and spiritual traditions, emphasizing symbolical, esoteric, and ethical philosophy. He worked and studied there for most of his life, assembling an extraordinary library of rare texts and antiquities. Hall’s “Great Book,” The Secret Teachings of All Ages (1928), remains unparalleled as an encyclopedic codex of mystical traditions and symbols, and has inspired generations of scholars and seekers.
