The Glassy, Burning Floor of Hell
Brian’s books are some of our strongest, most reliable sellers. His previous short story collections, Song for the Unraveling for the World (2019) and A Collapse of Horses (2016), have sold 7k and 5k copies respectively. His readership is large and loyal, and continues to expand. This collection has all the aspects that Brian’s readers love: impeccable craftsmanship, dark humor, psychological thrills, and an uncanny relationship to imagination. It also adds a very timely, relevant environmental aspect to his work, really leaning into the horror of climate change and the truly terrifying possibilities of the future. Past review coverage reads like a greatest hits album, with superlatives from the New York Times, the Washington Post, NPR, the Los Angeles Times, the New Yorker,Vulture, starred trade reviews, and more. We’ll include front matter highlighting past praise in the galley and the finished book. We’re expecting to build on this for even more attention and acclaim. Song for the Unraveling of the World won the 2019 Shirley Jackson Award for Single Author Collection and was a finalist for the 2019 Los Angeles Times Ray Bradbury Prize for Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Speculative Fiction and the 2019 Big Other Book Award for Fiction. It appeared on best-of-year lists from the New York Times, the Washington Post, and NPR. Brian’s work has been a finalist for the Shirley Jackson Award and the Edgar Award many times. We’ll be continuing to “build the beast” with original art from Sarah Evenson on the cover, which will interlock with the covers of his previous titles.
